Fun With Maps
Do you know how much fun you can have with a map? Well, I know I can have alot of fun! This page was inspired by my long time
question of "what the hell are those tracks next to [what was] Avenue I Flea Market [now ShopRite]?" Well, one night I was looking
around Yahoo Maps and saw those pesky train tracks by my house! I said "Hey why not follow them and see where it goes?" Well, I
did and it took me three hours to find that it connects to Conneticut and beyond. What is it you ask? Well, I researched that too and
found out that it was once the Bay Ridge line of a really long time ago, around 1900! Today, it is an abandoned track that you can see
the beginning of when driving towards the Verrazano Bridge on the Gowanus Expressway. Further down, before it gets to me, it lays
parallel to the N line then splits to where I am. Beyond me it meanders through Brooklyn, Queens, then connects to other lines that
bring it to Conneticut and I assume more northeast. These are some of the maps I found while on this quest. See if you can find more!
Its not the best pic, but it's so
large I had to shrink it! It is a
topographical map of Brooklyn
and Queens drawn a really long
time ago. Oh shoo I lost the link!
Here is a map of the old Hartford-New Haven lines
that bought the Bay Ridge line which was then
bought by LIRR and Metro North.

Very cool site for Brooklyn Lovers... and then some!
Pesky 'Ol Train Tracks Causin' Trouble!
You love railroads? So do they!
Check it out! THE neatest shot

USGS!
There it is!! See those two
lines crossing thru Queens?
The one on the left is the Old
Bay Ridge Line!
Here is where the tracks are near my
home. The patch of green (or grey in this
case) is Washington Cemetary. The large
street going north from there is
McDonald Avenue. If you go north, the
large ditch is the Bay Ridge Line, and
right where ShopRite is - the beginning
of this saga!
Hey Look! I found my house! See if you
can
find yours!
Check these guys out!
